The Secret History Behind Bosnia and Herzegovina's Flag
Aktie
Bosnia and Herzegovina's flag was designed so that no single group could claim it.
The current flag was introduced on February 4, 1998 by the UN High Representative, Carlos Westendorp, and was designed by Mladen Kolobarić. It was made deliberately neutral, so that it could not be identified with any religious, political or ethnic group.
A yellow triangle sits against a blue field. Its three points are commonly read as the three constituent peoples of the country, the Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs, and the shape of the triangle also suggests the country's outline. Along the long side, white stars run off the flag at both ends: a continuation, and a nod to the stars of Europe.
The date printed on every Bosnia and Herzegovina design in our catalog, March 1, 1992, is the date Bosnia and Herzegovina marks as Independence Day.
A flag drawn to belong to everyone.
