The Secret History Behind Rwanda's Flag
Share
Rwanda's current flag was designed around the idea of a new start.
It was adopted on October 25, 2001, and credited to Alphonse Kirimobenecyo. The previous flag was replaced as part of the country's efforts toward national unity and reconciliation after the 1994 genocide.
The flag has a sky-blue band on top and two narrower bands of yellow and green below, with a golden sun of 24 rays in the upper fly corner. Blue stands for happiness and peace, yellow for economic development, green for the hope of prosperity, and the sun for enlightenment.
The date printed on every Rwanda design in our catalog, July 1, 1962, is Independence Day.
A sun, three colors and a flag chosen for the future.
