The Secret History Behind Nauru's Flag
Share
Nauru's flag is a small map: the Equator and an island just south of it.
The flag was chosen in a local design competition and adopted on January 31, 1968, Independence Day. It is a dark blue field with a thin yellow horizontal stripe in the middle and a large white twelve-pointed star below the stripe, near the hoist.
The blue is the ocean around the island, the yellow stripe is the Equator, and the star, placed just south of it, is Nauru's position. The twelve points stand for the twelve tribes of the Nauruan people.
The date printed on every Nauru design in our catalog, January 31, 1968, is Independence Day.
A line, a star and an island on the Equator.
