Every shirt in our shop shows a country's flag, the name of the place, and the date it began, printed as "EST." on the front. We are a small U.S. brand and every shirt is made to order, so a gift can be picked with the person in mind. Here is how to choose well.

How to choose a heritage gift

• Start with the place they talk about. It may be where they were born, where their parents are from, or the country they fell in love with on a trip. Mixed roots? Choose the one that comes up at family dinners.
• Look for the story, not only the flag. Each design pairs the flag with a symbol of the place, such as a mermaid, a fjord, a temple or a coffee region, so it feels like more than a flag on a shirt.
• Think about the date. The "EST." date is a conversation starter. Ask them what that day means to their family.
