6 Countries Marking a National Day in February

February is a busy month for independence days. Six countries in our catalog mark one, from the Caribbean to Africa, Asia and the Baltic. Here they are in calendar order.
February 4 — Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka celebrates Independence Day every February 4, commemorating its political independence from British rule in 1948.
February 7 — Grenada
Grenada became independent from the United Kingdom on February 7, 1974. The day is a public holiday marked with parades and ceremonies.
February 18 — The Gambia
The Gambia gained independence on February 18, 1965, under the leadership of Dawda Jawara, in a peaceful transition.
February 22 — Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia became an independent state on February 22, 1979, while remaining a Commonwealth realm.
February 24 — Estonia
Estonia's Declaration of Independence was adopted on February 21, 1918, and first read publicly on February 23 from the balcony of the Endla Theatre in Pärnu. It was printed and distributed in Tallinn on February 24, 1918, the date now celebrated as Independence Day.
February 27 — Dominican Republic
Independence was proclaimed on February 27, 1844, when a group of young patriots led by Juan Pablo Duarte and other leaders rebelled against Haitian rule.
