4 Countries Marking a National Day in January

January opens the year with independence and constitutional milestones. Four countries in our catalog mark a national day this month. Here they are in calendar order.
January 1 — Haiti
Haiti declared independence on January 1, 1804, becoming the first independent Black republic and the first nation to abolish slavery permanently after a successful revolution led by formerly enslaved people. Independence Day is celebrated every January 1.
January 1 — Sudan
Sudan became independent from Great Britain on January 1, 1956, and celebrates Independence Day on that date.
January 4 — Myanmar
Myanmar's Independence Day falls on January 4 and marks independence from Great Britain in 1948.
January 26 — India
India's Republic Day honors the day the Constitution of India came into effect, on January 26, 1950.
