The Secret History Behind Nicaragua's Flag
Aktie
Nicaragua's flag has a rainbow in its center.
The blue-white-blue flag comes from the United Provinces of Central America, with the colors inspired by Argentina's flag. It was first adopted on September 4, 1908, and made official by law on August 27, 1971.
The upper blue stripe stands for the Pacific Ocean and the lower one for the Caribbean Sea. The white band means peace and integrity.
In the center is a triangle, for balance, with five volcanoes for the five original members of the Central American federation, a rainbow for peace and a bright future, and a Phrygian cap, the symbol of liberty.
The date printed on every Nicaragua design in our catalog, September 15, 1821, is the day Central America declared independence from Spain.
Five volcanoes, two seas and a rainbow.
